gonzo journalism | noun
a style of reporting that places the reporter at the center of the story in a highly personal and participatory way (Britannica)
Every story is personal - whether it’s a news-breaking headline, a timeless novel or a lofty think-piece. I’m always thinking about the big-picture questions these stories raise, and how they intersect with my little-picture life. How should I make sense of them, and how should I go about my day?
Two years ago, I started a newsletter for family and friends asking them to help me get more curious - to read, listen, and think better. The result was LG’s List: a monthly round-up of books, movies, and podcast recommendations. Interestingly enough, feeding my curiosity only made me hungrier.
Introducing: Gonzo Journalism. Each month, I’ll bring you a question I’m reflecting on, along with my bootstrapped attempt at finding some understanding. I can’t promise any answers, but I’m committed to taking you along for the ride.
I’ll also continue my monthly round-ups of books, films and pods that helped me see the world a little differently than I used to. PLUS, field reports from my kooky little adventures, soul polls that allow YOU to weigh in on topics, and some of my very own fiction writing if I’m feeling particularly gutsy.
About me:
I’ve worked in media and podcasting for years, currently at NPR. I enjoy listening to a podcast good enough to make me want to take the long way home. I’m also a wannabe Leo, a pata caliente and a one-woman dance party.
Why subscribe?
Like most of other newsletters, this is just a silly little corner of the Internet that allows me to indulge the questions I’m noodling on. My friends say they like my writing - maybe you will too! All posts are free (for now).
